The Sanctuary of Truth is perhaps the most iconic structure in Pattaya. Intricately carved entirely from teak wood, the awe-inspiring 105-metre-tall hall on the headland to the north of Wongamat Beach is a one-of-a-kind structure in the whole world. Neither temple nor palace, despite looking like a hybrid of both, it was commissioned by a local business tycoon to act as a place of appreciation for philosophy, art, culture and faith, without being tied to a single religion.
This small island off Pattaya's coast is a great day trip spot for some beach fun. You can reach Koh Larn, or Coral Island, in just 40 minutes by ferry or speedboat from Bali Hai Pier. The crystalline beaches and warm, pristine waters are great for parasailing, jet skiing, banana boat rides and snorkeling. And for the best views on the island, locals recommend the Big Buddha Viewpoint.
About 18 kilometres south of Pattaya, with a left turn from Sukhumvit Road, at Km. 163, Nong Nooch Garden is a sprawling recreation park in typical Thai settings. Groups of traditional Thai houses and gardens of different plants, for example, an orchid garden, a palm garden, a banana garden, a bonsai garden, a cactus garden and a heliconia garden, are dotted around the beautifully landscaped site. A zoo and a butterfly garden are also in the compound. There are daily cultural and elephant shows attracting crowds of delighted visitors.
